Project Duration
February 2023- May 2023
Role
Sole UI/UX Designer
Responsibilities
User research, conducting interviews, insight conversion, wireframing, prototyping, conducting usability studies, information architecture, visual design, responsive design, UX writing.
The Problem
Users find the website challenging to use. The design is not user friendly and lacks branding.
The Goal
Create a user-friendly and engaging user interface that is delightful to use. Also, to introduce new features.
Challenges Faced
Few users
PLP Factory is a growing startup, not as many users responded as I would like. I worked with the user size to generate some very interesting insights and also used secondary research method.
Deadlines
As the sole UI/UX Designer, this required efficient time management, prioritization and the ability to make decisions on the go.
Many Potential Features
There are many features stakeholders wish to implement. Through communication and putting the user first, I made. sure to design what the user really needs in this first version whilst satisfying stakeholders.
Results
User-friendly Interface
Engaging onboarding process
Intuitive dashboard for creators
Simplified payment system
New follower feature
Process
User Research
During the redesign process, I utilized the insights gained from the remote interviews with our existing user base. Their feedback provided valuable insights into their needs, motivations, and pain points with the current site. Many users specifically expressed the need for a redesign, highlighting areas where improvements were desired.By actively listening to our users and understanding their perspectives, I was able to identify key areas for improvement and incorporate their feedback into the redesign process. This ensured that the new design addressed their needs and provided an enhanced user experience.
Personas
Based on the insights gathered from the user research, I identified two primary user groups: Creators and Buyers. To better understand their motivations, goals, and pain points, I created two personas that represent each group.
User Journeys To empathize with my users and gain a deeper understanding of their experience, I created user journey maps for each of the personas. These user journey maps allowed me to visualize the steps and touchpoints that the users go through when interacting with our old version/ first version of our platform
Ideation
Using the ‘’How Might We…’ ideation technique and a thorough competitive audit. I generated innovative ideas and got an understanding of the creative marketplace and where we can improve One of the ’How Might We…’ questions included "How might we make our seller plans more attractive?" Using the ideas generated from research and team members. I begun the design process. Wireframing and prototyping, backed by user testing produced a new and seamless experience for PLP Factory users.
Iterative Design and User Testing
Trying to work with the constraint of few users, I decided to test the design at the early stage within the team and then at the final stage with users. The results of the usability test included :
Creating an account and buying items are simple.
70% of users find it easy to complete tasks on a seller account.
Mockups
Before
After
I went on to design responsively for mobile and tablet.
Learnings
Proper usability testing should be applied to every design. Products are created for users, so they should be tested by users!
